Highlight of the Week – Father and Son

What is your ZogSports Highlight?

This week’s highlight comes from a father/son ZogSports reffing duo in Los Angeles:

“Big Daddy Kane” BDK (father):

Ever since I joined ZogsportsLA, life is fun, playing sports is extremely enjoyable and being a field team member is AMAZING. I’ve come across some amazing people, I’ve reffed some awesome games and I’ve made lots of new friends. I enjoy every minute of every game i referee, I make sure EVERY player feels the energy I bring!! I love to spice things up, I like to bring joy and good sportsmanship to every game. Zogsports is the best coed league I’ve come across.

Diego (son):

It’s a ton of fun reffing for ZogSports! Whether it’s hanging with others or watching an insane play happen, I’m glad to be a part of every game. I’ve been a part of the team for more than a year, however I’m still continuously improving and learning with every game. I hope to be a part of it for much longer so I can have even more fun!

You play ZogSports to make new friends, keep playing your favorite sports, give back, and experience a highlight every week.  Now it’s time to meet the people that help deliver those highlights.  Let’s go Behind the Scenes with Field Team Supervisors:

Meet Darnell!

Jpeg

Darnell is a Field Team Supervisor for NYC Football.

Z: How long have you been with ZogSports?

D: Player since fall 2005, ref since spring 2006

Z: Why do you love working for ZogSports?

D: I love working for ZogSports, because meeting new people is always great, and Zog provides continuous chances to do so.  I love the opportunity to help someone new to the city or someone that’s shy have a great experience and make some new friends.  And I love being a part of the fun both on the field and off.

Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?

D: Don’t be corny, just say “hi”.  Alternately, challenge her to a bar game!

Z: What has been your ZogSports highlight?

D: A recent highlight I’m proud of was helping a new dodgeball team that was having a really rough time against veteran opponents still have a good night by making jokes and keeping it fun(ny) for them.  They went from wanting to leave mid match to smiling and laughing. That was a great ending to my shift.

Meet Ron!

ron sanders

Ron is a Field Team Supervisor for NYC Basketball.

Z: How long have you been with ZogSports?

R: Been at Zog about a year and a half.

Z: Why do you love working for ZogSports?

R: I love working for ZogSports, because I love playing and teaching the game of basketball.  As a referee I am able to spread my knowledge and skills to help another player enjoy the game as much as I do, and Zog gives me the opportunity to do that.

Z: What’s the best team name you’ve come across while working for ZogSports?

R: Best team name to me was “I’m in love with the coco”.

Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?

R: I don’t have a pickup line.  I just smile and close the deal….lol.

Z: What has been your ZogSports highlight?

R: My favorite Zog highlight was during a 4vs4 basketball game.  Both teams only had 4 players a piece and had played their heart of all games.  One player from team A got hurt so instead of team B continuing 4vs3 they decided to drop a player on their team to continue the gritty competition.  In the end the team with the 4 players won, but it was good to see that they did not take advantage and played a fair game.  To me, that was a great highlight moment.

Meet Steven!

steven hernandez

Steven is a Field Team Supervisor for NYC Soccer.

Z: How long have you been with ZogSports?

S: I’ve been with Zog for 6 months

Z: Why do you love working for ZogSports?

S: I love working for Zog, because there is such an amazing positive vibe/energy across the board between co-workers, office and field, as well as the teams.  It’s like we all know at the end of the day we are helping people and it translates to the way we all treat each other.  I’ve never worked in an environment where there is so much mutual respect and kindness towards one another and it seems to extend into our games.  The teams treat each other with more respect than I’ve seen in any other league.  It’s an amazing thing to witness and help create.

Z: What’s the best team name you’ve come across while working for ZogSports?

S: Best team name by far is WE USED TO BE BETTER (I think we all can relate).

Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?

S: Sorry, I don’t really have any pick-up lines, been married so long I’ve forgotten all of them. (GOOD ANSWER!!!!)

Z: What has been your ZogSports highlight?

S: My ZogSports highlight is when we helped get a cab for a player who tore her ACL.  To make a long story short, the lights at Roosevelt Island go out promptly at 11pm.  Myself and 2 other co-workers were able to find her a cab by running about a half mile to track one down.  There aren’t many cabs on Roosevelt Island, so to find her one so late (literally 2 minutes before the light went out) and get her home safely was definitely my highlight.

Z: Next time you see Steven, ask him to tell you about the time…

S: he made 3 goals in a row from midfield!!!!

J: I love working for ZogSports, because I get to meet incredible people, get some sun, have some fun, and get paid for it!

Z: What’s the best team name you’ve come across while working for ZogSports?

J: “Balls Deep in Unicorns”

Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?

J: “In case you were wondering, maybe that’s a flag in my pocket….maybe it’s not.”

Z: What has been your ZogSports highlight?

Z: Next time you see Jonathan, ask him to tell you about the time…

J: I entered a “hand-on-car” contest…and WON!

Z: Why do you love working for ZogSports?

A: I love working for ZogSports, because it’s such a cool organization that brings people together from all walks of life.  I’ve made some great friends thanks to Zog.  And the fact that teams play for charity puts us a step over the competition out there that just plays for sport only.

Z: What’s the best team name you’ve come across while working for ZogSports?

A: “Mas Serve Aces” or “Cunning Stunts & Spicy Meats”

Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?

Highlight Of The Week – Other Side Of The Whistle

What is your ZogSports Highlight?

“I actually started out with Zog as a referee and this was the first season I finally got all of my friends to play. It was SO much fun to actually play against (and beat!) the people I have been refereeing for the past few seasons!”

What is your ZogSports Highlight?

“One night when refereeing volleyball, a team got completely blown out in all three games that they had that night so they were done playing in about 25 minutes.  Zog allots 45 minutes for the matches, so they were a little bummed and feeling very defeated since their games were over so soon.  To make sure they had some fun that night, I let them use the court for the rest of the time and kept refereeing so they could keep playing.  The teams really enjoyed themselves and ended up mixing up the teams, getting to know each other, and having a lot of fun.”
