“After a few failed attempts in elementary school and high school (I always quit out of fear of not playing well enough and embarrassing myself), team sports have been on my bucket list.
After a few random pick-up games over the years, I realized if I didn’t organize something and get it on the books I was running from my fear, again. So, I organized a company team and signed up with Zog Sports. Yes, we played our first season and lost, but the team’s enthusiasm and support was inspiring. It was amazing! There was even a cheering section at some games. I went from no goals to goals and assisting and we wrapped up the season awarding every player for something. Everyone cheered for all efforts and improvement.
Well, we signed up for the next season and won the Championship. The whole experience has been pretty amazing. We’ve all met new people, developed discipline on many fronts, and just really had fun. While winning is fun, no matter what we go out there fired up every time and end the night feeling amazing. It’s been a great experience.“

“My team has been playing rec soccer since Winter 2011 (this fall is our 17th season as a team, 10th with Zog). My Zog highlight was our first championship. After three years of knocking on the door, we finally triumphed in Fall 2014. It was a magical season; we squared off against our nemesis, Goal Diggers. We had won narrow victories twice during the regular season. In a grueling championship game we finally reached the promised land in a dramatic PK showdown. I’ll never forget the final shot, knowing we’d secured the championship. As we all sprinted toward the goal to celebrate, the feeling was pure joy.”

You play ZogSports to make new friends, keep playing your favorite sports, give back, and experience a highlight every week. Now it’s time to meet the people that help deliver those highlights. Let’s go Behind the Scenes with Field Team Supervisors:
Meet Steven!
Steven is a Field Team Supervisor for NYC Soccer.
Z: How long have you been with ZogSports?
S: I’ve been with Zog for 6 months
Z: Why do you love working for ZogSports?
S: I love working for Zog, because there is such an amazing positive vibe/energy across the board between co-workers, office and field, as well as the teams. It’s like we all know at the end of the day we are helping people and it translates to the way we all treat each other. I’ve never worked in an environment where there is so much mutual respect and kindness towards one another and it seems to extend into our games. The teams treat each other with more respect than I’ve seen in any other league. It’s an amazing thing to witness and help create.
Z: What’s the best team name you’ve come across while working for ZogSports?
S: Best team name by far is WE USED TO BE BETTER (I think we all can relate).
Z: Do you have advice for the best pickup line to use at a ZogSports happy hour?
S: Sorry, I don’t really have any pick-up lines, been married so long I’ve forgotten all of them. (GOOD ANSWER!!!!)
Z: What has been your ZogSports highlight?
S: My ZogSports highlight is when we helped get a cab for a player who tore her ACL. To make a long story short, the lights at Roosevelt Island go out promptly at 11pm. Myself and 2 other co-workers were able to find her a cab by running about a half mile to track one down. There aren’t many cabs on Roosevelt Island, so to find her one so late (literally 2 minutes before the light went out) and get her home safely was definitely my highlight.
Z: Next time you see Steven, ask him to tell you about the time…
S: he made 3 goals in a row from midfield!!!!

We know that many people play ZogSports in order to keep playing their favorite sports from childhood, but so many people join ZogSports for the social aspects, too: to have an organized and fun outlet to hangout with their group of friends on a weekly basis, to make new friends, and maybe even to meet their soulmate. The latter became true for Brenda and Colin Miners.
Check out their amazing story that proves they were meant to be, and thanks to ZogSports, they finally found each other!
In the fall of 2010, I started a soccer team with a few friends. I had moved to NYC from Canada two years prior and I thought [ZogSports] would be a great way to meet new people. In order to fill up the roster, my friends invited their friends who invited their friends, and that was how Colin was introduced onto the team. As we slowly got to know each other every week after the games, we realized how much we had in common.
We had both graduated from the same school, the University of Waterloo, but in different years. We had both completed internships in NYC in finance. He even worked with an old roommate of mine at one point and claims to have visited our apartment but I wasn’t home (3 years before we officially met). A few years after we started dating, I found a picture of the two of us at a poker tournament back in Canada, sitting next to each other, and the picture was dated July 5, 2005.
We’ve been loyal members of ZogSports since that fabulous fall of 2010. Through ZogSports soccer, and the continuous cycle of friends bringing in more friends, we found our family away from home. So many special friendships and bonds were formed through our weekly games, all of which we carried off the field. Some of our friends have come and gone, not only from our soccer team but from NYC. We were thrilled to have a reunion and celebration at our wedding in Jamaica on April 12, 2015.
Funny thing is, I’m not even any good at soccer! But we all have so much fun, it doesn’t matter.
We love this story! Congratulations, Brenda and Colin, and might we say you all look dapper!
